ABOUT

Annam Butt is a traditionally trained artist whose practice spans figurative painting, narrative still-lifes, and explorations of the Orient, often working directly from life. Subtle influences of her British Pakistani heritage weave through her work, alongside her fascination with antiquities and items, which she collects from her travels and incorporates into her compositions to build layered narratives.

She was awarded the De Laszlo Scholarship consecutively in 2018 and 2019, an opportunity that deepened her craft and introduced her to the works of the Orientalists—an encounter that sparked her enduring interest in representation in all its forms. Her collaborations include projects with the Royal Academy of Arts and Leighton House, as well as talks atSoho House and other institutions.Education and community-building are central to her practice.

Annam Co-founded Big TurtleStudio where she teaches, hosts workshops, and fosters a supportive environment for artists. The community she has helped build there has become a thriving platform, with members going on to achieve significant recognition of their own. As an artist, Annam is committed to creating spaces that are kind, inclusive, and inspiring—places where both creativity and community can flourish.
